While the news of Dinesh Karthik stepping down as Kolkata Knight Riders captain became on Friday, the wicketkeeper-batsman had informed his teammates on Thursday. Eoin Morgan, the man who has replaced Karthik at the helm, revealed the news before the clash against Mumbai Indians.
Eoin Morgan stated that Karthik took the decision to focus on his batting and for the team as he hailed his predecessor’s move as ‘incredibly selfless’. The England skipper also expressed his delight over his new role. At the same time, he made it clear that he is not getting carried away with the new role and his focus is fully on the remainder of the tournament.
“I’m delighted to continue the leadership role within the side, obviously captain and not vice captain now, but hopefully continue to work alongside our players. We are only halfway through the tournament, we have showed some potential, haven’t quite achieved majority of it yet but tonight will be another good test and hopefully we’ll be up to it,” he added.

At present, KKR are fourth in the points table with four wins from seven games. The two-time IPL winners have not won the tournament since 2014 and would be hoping that England’s World Cup-winning captain ends their long wait for the third title.
