Dinesh Karthik handed over the KKR captaincy to Eoin Morgan but the results turned out to be worse for the franchise. KKR were well and truly beaten by Mumbai Indians as they continue to look the most vulnerable side in the IPL 2020 points table. Former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir opined about the captaincy change.

Gambhir believes that cricket is not about building relationships, it’s about performances. He also added that since the captaincy changed hands mid-season, Eoin Morgan might not be able to make much impact to the side.

Mumbai Indians thrashed KKR by eight-wicket to maintain their dominating run in IPL. Gambhir believes that Morgan could’ve made the difference as a captain had he led the side from the onset of the tournament. The former Indian opener, personally, did not look in favour of the mid-season change.

“Cricket is not about relationships, it’s about performances and honestly, I don’t think Morgan can change a lot of things. He could’ve changed a lot of things had he captained from the start of the tournament. No one changes during the middle of the tournament. It’s nice to have a good relationship between the coach and the captain,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Opting to bat, KKR top-order failed to fire with Morgan and Pat Cummins playing quick fire knocks to take their side to 148/5 in the stipulated 20 overs against the defending champions.

The Mumbai franchise started their chase on a dominating note as openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock stitched together a 94-run stand to put the game to bed. All-rounder Hardik Pandya then played a cameo of 21 runs from 11 deliveries to help Mumbai clinch a comfortable victory.
