And, they have finally arrived! Shane Watson had tweeted after CSK’s defeat to SunRisers Hyderabad that the ‘perfect game for the former champions is coming’. And, by god, didn’t he [83* off 53 balls] and Faf du Plessis [87*  off 53 balls] play a significant role in ensuring that the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings had a perfect outing with the bat during their 10-wicket demolition of Kings XI Punjab in Dubai on Sunday.

CSK had come into the game on the back of three successive defeats and calls were getting louder for MS Dhoni and the team management to take some harsh calls and drop out-of-form batsmen in opener Shane Watson and Kedar Jadhav. But, CSK being CSK, stuck with the game playing XI and the faith in Watson reaped rewards as the swashbuckling opener finally found his mojo today, scoring a brilliant 83 not-out.

Faf du Plessis, who continued his brilliant form with yet another 50-plus score, lauded MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming for sticking with the players

”Credit to MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming for sticking with the side. It a Chennai way to stick with the players more than other teams might even when others feel like making changes. It comes with experience and credit to the management for sticking with the players. It isn’t as easy as it looks,” Faf du Plessis said in the post-match interview.

‘Great that we could get a great partnership tonight’- Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis was pretty pleased with yet another brilliant batting display, adding that his objective has been to bat till the end. He also expressed his delight at the fact that his fellow opener Shane Watson finally found his mojo, eventually ending up as the ‘Player of the Match’

It’s coming well. I think the big thing for me it to bat till the end. I don’t want to score 30s and 40s and get out. Great that we could get a great partnership tonight. Great that Watto (Shane Watson) got those runs as well for us, he’s a big player in our side. I thought in the previous game we were good with the ball, but we didn’t bat well. Today Watto was a big plus for us. A lot of guys haven’t played cricket, so you hope that you strike form immediately. But when that doesn’t happen, it does take a bit of time. Hopefully our guys find their best form over the next 3-4 games.
