Off late, the Indian team management is trying out various players in the T20I format of the game to finalise the perfect squad for the ICC T20I World Cup 2020. Meanwhile, the veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh suggests a change to the Indian selectors by asking Ravichandran Ashwin to replace Washington Sundar in the current Indian team.

Washington Sundar has always been the economical bowler, who bowls in the powerplay overs. He is more a run-control option rather than being the wicket-taker for the team. On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin is also a similar kind of bowler, who can bowl with the new ball and also got the knack of picking wickets at regular intervals of time.

Ravichandran Ashwin has more variations – Harbhajan Singh

Speaking of the same, Harbhajan Singh quoted that preferring Ravichandran Ashwin will do a world of good for the team rather than having Washington Sundar. Harbhajan Singh explained that he is not opposing the idea to bring youngsters into the side but he wants them to learn to sustain in the team with their performances not because they are youngsters.

“This is what I feel if you are looking to bowl a spinner upfront (which Sundar has been doing in T20s), you rather have a wicket-taker which Ashwin is. Why not (give him a chance)? He has also done a good job with the red ball recently,” Harbhajan Singh said.

“Ashwin spins the ball, he has got more variations. Someone like a Sundar needs to learn. I want him to do well. I am all for blooding in youngsters but they must learn else they will be replaced, considering the stiff competition,” said the 39-year-old told PTI at the Australian High Commission on Tuesday.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are two best options:

Further, Harbhajan Singh believes that the Indian team should rely on Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, who can make things fall in place for the team. He believes wicket-takers like Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav will always be in the game irrespective of the situation.

“They are your wicket-takers. People who are wicket-takers will always be in the game, be it Kuldeep or Chahal or whoever. You need to ask the management (if they should be playing every game). They (management) probably want to see what combination works well for them but good to see Chahal back and Hopefully, Kuldeep will be back too. In my opinion, they are your two best options,” he said.

Well, it would be interesting to see whether BCCI selectors would listen to the suggestion made by Harbhajan Singh or not. Ravichandran Ashwin has last played for India in 2017 Champions Trophy under Virat Kohli. Later, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav replaced him and Ravindra Jadeja respectively.
