Former Indian women’s team cricketer, Anju Jain recently moulded the ‘minnows’ into champions of 2018 Women’s Asia Cup within just three weeks of taking over as the coach of Bangladesh women’s cricket team.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh pulled off a dramatic win over defending champions India to lift the Women’s Asia Cup title on Sunday (June 10) in Malaysia.

Moreover, they stunned India in the last over thriller by three wickets at Kuala Lumpur.

Salma Khatun-led Bangladesh chased down a modest total of 113 runs owing to a last-ball thriller – to win their maiden Asia Cup title.

Further, they also shocked the cricketing world by beating India in the round robin league stage. However, Bangladesh had a disastrous tour to South Africa last month.

The suffered a humiliating loss as they lost the One-day International series 5-0 and the Twenty20 Internationals 3-0.

As a result, Bangladesh board didn’t renew the contract of coach David Capel, a former England allrounder, and appointed Anju, who took charge on May 21.

Huge moment for the team:

Anju while talking to Times of India after the win admitted it was a huge moment for her and Bangladesh cricket as well.

“Joining Bangladesh was a fast-tracked move. The team was in bad shape and I was only looking to boost their morale,” Anju said.

She also noted while boosting the morale of the players and identified the loopholes to plug in at the earliest.

“This is a huge moment for the team and personally for me also. After the team returned from South Africa, I identified the areas that needed attention. It was a massive challenge, but I must compliment the girls. They made a genuine effort to implement every single thing that I pointed out,” she added.

Meanwhile, this was Anju’s first stint as a coach for a side-like Bangladesh. Previously, she coached the Indian Women’s team at the 2012 World T20 and 2013 World Cup.

Prior to accepting the Bangladesh offer, Anju Jain helped the Vidarbha team top the Plate Group in the domestic one-day tournament for the first time.
