Not One, Indian Team Might Play Two Pink-Ball Tests In Australia Next Year: Report

Following team India’s historic pink-ball Test against Bangladesh, Cricket Australia (CA) is hopeful that the visiting team might play a day-night Test on the tour to the country next year. The Australian board is expecting something bigger than just one Test as it might ask the Indian board to play two pink-ball Tests, a report in ESPNcricinfo suggests. The demand is likely to be declined by BCCI. CA’s delegation will be in India when Australia play Men in Blue in three ODIs in January 2020.

If the BCCI agrees, then it will be the first time in the history that a Test series will have two pink-ball Tests. A final decision will be taken by Virat Kohli-led side when the proposal comes. The members of the team might be reluctant to play a day-night Test in Australia and it is almost a surety that none of the players will agree to play two pink-ball Tests.

The tour of Australia next year will be a part of the ICC Test Championship and the Indian team will avoid taking any step which could derail its form. After the Bangladesh Test, members of the Indian cricket have had their grievances regarding playing with the pink ball.

Ahead of India’s tour to Australia last year, CA had come up with a proposal of playing a pink-ball Test but India denied. The Virat Kohli-led side had become the first Asian team to defeat Australia in Australia on that tour.

Team India’s next Test championship fixture is against New Zealand. The result of the series will surely have an impact on whether BCCI accepts CA’s proposal to play even one pink-ball Test on the tour. Following the Australia series, India will host South Africa in 2021.

Recently, Australia played another pink-ball Test as they hosted Pakistan. David Warner became the first batsman to score a triple-century in day-night Test. Australia piled up a total of 589/3. In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 302 and 239 to lose the Test by an innings and 48 runs.
