The Indian Premier League (IPL) provides a platform for Indian cricketers to showcase their immense talent in their repertoire. With the franchise opting for players doing well in international as well as domestic cricket, every player is keen to prove themselves to get higher biddings.

As such, IPL 2020 saw the birth of many Indian cricketers and already established ones, who took the tournament to the next level. While some players could not live up to the reputation, there is no discounting the enormous efforts they put into entertaining the public and giving their best on the field.

We take a look at best Indian XI of IPL 2020:

KL Rahul hit the top gear in IPL 2020 as he mustered 670 runs in 14 games at an average of 55.83 with six fifties and one century. KL Rahul maintained a strike rate of 129, which was questioned quite a few times; however, he rectified it in the second half of the season to craft many match-winning knocks. As a captain of Kings XI Punjab, the 28-year old did not let the captaincy affect his batting.

Shikhar Dhawan:

Shikhar Dhawan was the standout batsman amongst the rich stocks of batsmen that Delhi Capitals boast of. Shikhar Dhawan became the first player in IPL to muster successive centuries when he hit it against Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab in different venues. The southpaw was very crucial in Delhi Capitals reaching their first final in history, having clubbed 618 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav:

Amongst the hard-hitting batsmen that Mumbai Indians have in their ranks, Suryakumar Yadav is one such player, who is a mixture of both. Suryakumar Yadav became a vital cog of the four-time champions’ batting line-up, soaking the pressure perfectly at number three. The 30-year old has amassed over 450 runs in IPL 2020, maintaining a strike rate of almost 150.

Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli might have been inconsistent in IPL 2020; however, he is a player, who is an irresistible choice. Though Virat Kohli mustered 466 runs in the 13th edition, only a few times, he seemed comfortable at the crease and ruled over the bowlers. The 32-year old, who is the highest run-getter in IPL with 5878 runs, scored three fifties in the 2020 season.

Ishan Kishan:

Ishan Kishan is one player, who has been in a top-notch form since Mumbai Indians drafted him into the playing eleven. In IPL 2020, Ishan Kishan played as an opener and in the middle-order, adapting his gameplan perfectly according to the situation. The southpaw has scored over 500 runs in the season and is knocking the Indian selectors’ doors viciously.

Hardik Pandya:

Only a few finishers are as relentless and ruthless as Hardik Pandya is. Hardik Pandya played solely as a batsman in IPL 2020 as his back did not support him to bowl. The 26-year old has maintained a strike rate of 182.39 in IPL 2020 and was particularly brutal against the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals in the first qualifier. Hardik is also an exceptional fielder.

Mohammed Shami:

Mohammed Shami was one of the few bright spots for Kings XI Punjab in yet another disappointing season. In 14 IPL 2020 games, Mohammed Shami claimed 20 victims at 23 with best bowling figures of 3/15. The right-arm seamer was mainly impressive in the double super-over match against Mumbai Indians in Dubai when he delivered six yorkers on the bounce in the first super-over. Shami was also outstanding with the new ball.

Yuzvendra Chahal:

Yuzvendra Chahal was the go-to bowler for Virat Kohli, who captained Royal Challengers Bangalore. Yuzvendra Chahal was the lead spinner of the franchise and enticed the batsmen often, luring them into making mistakes. The Haryana-born leggie picked up 21 wickets in 15 games at 19.09 with an economy rate of 7.08.

Varun Chakravarthy:

Varun Chakravarthy, who received a bid from Kolkata Knight Riders, was arguably the find of IPL 2020. The leg-spinner flopped in IPL 2018 for Kings XI Punjab, having played only one game; however, bounced back in style this year. Chakravarthy bowled with great control, threatening the batsmen continuously. He snapped 17 scalps in 13 games and was the only bowler to pick up a fifer in IPL 2020.

Jasprit Bumrah:

Jasprit Bumrah deserves to be in the list without a second thought. If not wickets, Jasprit Bumrah ensures he goes economical to pave the way for his colleagues to clean up. The right-arm seamer has maintained an economy rate of 6.71 and has a tally of 27 wickets in the season, second only to Kagiso Rabada’s 30.

T Natarajan:

If Varun Chakravarthy was the find in the spin-bowling front, T Natarajan was in the fast-bowling aspect. The left-arm spinner exemplified his brilliant ability to bowl yorkers frequently during death, which even experienced and gun pacers could not. Natarajan picked up 16 wickets in as many games at 31.50 and delivered more than 40 yorkers throughout the tournament.
