Former left-arm seamer Irfan Pathan is one of the most active cricketers in social media, opining about the various cricketing issues from time to time. On this occasion, Irfan Pathan reacted to Dinesh Karthik stepping down from the leadership position of Kolkata Knight Riders. The keeper-batsman has handed over the reins to English limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan with immediate effect.
Before the tournament, several cricket experts tipped for Eoin Morgan to take over as captain if the team struggles. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that Kolkata Knight Riders are in the fourth position with four victories from seven games, firmly remaining in contention for a playoff berth. However, Morgan and his reputation have enabled him to build a case for himself to assume the captaincy. Karthik’s inconsistent form with the bat has also been one of the reasons that he stepped down from the position.
Irfan Pathan reckons that changing captains in mid-season could unsettle the team members. The 35-year old hopes for the two-time champions not to lose their way in the tournament, being in the race for the playoffs spot. Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their third loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sharjah by a staggering 82 runs. Their bowling attack facilitated two come-from-behind victories in the tournament against Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. They will face Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Below is Irfan Pathan’s tweet:
Mid season change in Captaincy is never a comfortable situation for the team members. Hope #kkr doesn’t go astray from here. They are very much in the race for the playoffs! #DineshKarthik #Eoinmorgan
