Never write off a champion. Jasprit Bumrah once again reminded his doubters of this fact after he registered his best figures in his IPL career following a match-winning 4-20 against the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday [October 06].

Coming into the game against RR, Jasprit Bumrah had endured a mixed IPL campaign by his standards. He had bowled a match-winning spell against Kolkata Knight Riders but he had also been taken for runs by the likes of Pat Cummins and Abdul Samad.

But, against Rajasthan Royals, Jasprit Bumrah was relentless. After dismissing ace RR batsman Steven Smith- who got out in the same manner as he did against Pat Cummins- in this first over, the fast bowler returned in his second spell to ensure that Rahul did not pull a Tewatia as he knocked him over with a fullish-length delivery.

And, if that wasn’t enough, Bumrah then proceeded to show us a glimpse what he usually does in Test cricket- straighten the ball off the seam- only for Shreyas Gopal to nick it off to Quinton De Kock.

Bumrah had given just 8 runs in his first three overs and when Jofra Archer struck him for two boundaries in the 4th over, images off Pat Cummins smashing JB for sixes in one of the earlier games galore in minds of the fans. But, as I said, Bumrah was relentless, he bowled it full, not allowing Archer to get under the ball, resulting in a miscue. Kieron Pollard did the rest as Jasprit Bumrah claimed not only his 1st-ever four-wicket haul of his IPL career but also his 9th wicket at death this season- the joint-most alongside Kagiso Rabada.
