The right-handed batsman of the Indian National Cricket Team Manish Pandey is eyeing to make the most of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, to get back in the team for the ICC T20I World Cup in Australia. He wants to deliver match-winning performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), to get the attention of BCCI selectors.

When Pandey first made a name in top-flight cricket, he was, in all the glorious irony, a top-order batsman in a team where Virat Kohli batted at No. 6.

The year was 2009, and Pandey became the first Indian to score a century in the IPL. Eleven years on, Pandey is yet to find himself a safe stay in any Indian international side, and Kohli is a modern-day great of the game.

I know I may not bat at No. 3 for India: Manish Pandey

Speaking ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Pandey revealed that he would like to bat at number three position for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He wants to find himself among the top run-scorers of the league, to give himself the best chance ahead of the ICC T20I World Cup 2020.

”I wouldn’t want to change much. I think I’ll bat at No 3 and I’ll probably try and push for that spot in the IPL because that gives me more opportunities to express myself, get runs and then return to the Indian side. I know I may not bat at No. 3 for India but if I can do well in the IPL, I’ll carry with me the confidence of having got a lot of runs in the IPL,” Pandey said to Times of India.

Pandey believes that having run on his back will give him a better chance of expressing himself better for the Indian team. He hopes to become the match-winner for his side in every single game.

”It will give me enough time to reflect on my batting and learn from situations as well. Also, if I bat up the order and get as many runs as possible, I can carry that form into the World Cup. I’m hoping I can be the match-winner in as many matches as possible,” he added.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would turn out for Pandey in the upcoming IPL.

Ahead of IPL 2020, he will be in the action for India against South Africa on the three-match ODI series.
