Multan Sultans Rope in Andre Russell in Place of Injured Steven Smith

Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans have roped in the services of pugnacious all-rounder Andre Russell in place of injured Steven Smith. Multan Sultans have made the move during the player replacement draft on Thursday (24 January). Meanwhile, former Australian skipper Steven Smith is ruled out for six weeks due to an elbow injury earlier in the month.

On the other hand, Andre Russell has previously played for two-time champions Islamabad United. In fact, the combative Windies all-rounder was the leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets to his name in 10 matches in the maiden season of Pakistan Super League in 2016.

Smith is ruled out for six weeks.

In the previous season, Russell took four wickets in four matches. Meanwhile, the talismanic all-rounder will join players like Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik, who is the skipper of Multan Sultans.

Furthermore, the franchise has made one more change in their squad. They have replaced Joe Denly with James Vince who recently scored two back to back fifties in the ongoing Big Bash League while playing for Sydney Sixers.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi picked Andre Fletcher. However, the West Indies batsman has failed to impress in the previous season as he could only score 86 runs in five matches.

“It is great to have Andre Fletcher back since he is not only a good player but a true sportsman off the field as well. He is known to be someone who keeps the dugout atmosphere entertaining and we are super excited to have him back with us,” Zalmi’s Director Cricketing Affairs and head coach Mohammad Akram said.

This is going to be the fourth season of the Pakistan Super League. The big players like AB de Villiers will play in the PSL which will definitely add a spark to the 20-overs competition.
