Pakistan vs New Zealand 2018: Yasir Shah All Set to Break 82 Years Long Record

Pakistan’s leg-spinner Yasir Shah is all set to break a record which has stood tall for 82 years now. The Pakistan leggie has scalped 195 Test wickets in 32 matches. Thus, he is all set to become the quickest to the landmark of 200 Test scalps. Subseqently, Shah needs another five wickets to reach the milestone.

Australia’s bowling legend, Clarrie Grimmett who was also a leg-spinner holds the record for being the fastest to 200 wickets. The Australian spinner had reached the feat in 36 matches. Therefore, Shah has three more Test matches to bag the remaining five wickets.

Shah is in sensational form and getting five wickets in the next three matches will not be a big task for him. The leg-spinner had scalped 14 wickets in the second Test to help his side win by an innings and 16 runs.

Yasir had scalped eight wickets in the first essay whereas he took six wickets in the second dig. Thus, Yasir has scalped a total of 22 wickets in the ongoing series against New Zealand.

Yasir said he didn’t knew about Clarrie Grimmett.

“Grimmett? I don’t know much about him,” said Yasir. “He played so many years ago, but I know about the record because his name comes first whenever I see the list. I want to beat that record.”

The leg-spinner went on to add he likes contributing to the success of his team. Shah had completed a century of wickets in just 17 matches and he was the second fastest to the milestone after England’s George Lohmann.

“I am very happy to have contributed to the team’s wins,” said Yasir. “That is my job and I realise that responsibility to take wickets and get my team more and more wins.”

Yasir was able to join the likes of former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan who had also bagged 14 wickets. Imran holds the record for best bowling figures for a Pakistan bowler. Shah said it is an honour for him to have his name alongside the current Pakistan prime minister.

“I have equalled Imran Khan and that’s a big honour for me,” said Yasir. “My name will come with his and that’s great and I await his message.”

Pakistan and New Zealand will square off with each other on 3 December at Abu Dhabi.
