I Would Like To Think My Life Doesn't Change Much At All: Pat Cummins On His Record-Breaking IPL Deal

Pat Cummins, Australian pace spearhead and the No.1 ranked Test bowler in the world cricket currently, hit the jackpot last December when he was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a staggering amount of Rs 15.5 Crores in the 2020 Indian Premier League auctions.

Cummins broke all sorts of records and became the highest-paid overseas cricketer in the history of the cash-rich league. A lot of cricketers may have got carried away with the money but a balanced guy that Cummins, the Australian has never let success or failure affect his life too much.

“I would like to think my life doesn’t change much at all. I try my best in every game I play but I try to not let any successes or setbacks change my life too much,” Pat Cummins told PTI.

When asked whether the high of that day has faded away, the 27-year-old said-

“Not really. May be, once I get over there to play,” added the star bowler,” Cummins said.

“I grew up watching and loving Test cricket”- Pat Cummins

The advent and proliferation of franchise-based leagues have seen many cricketers give up Test cricket. But, Pat Cummins, just like Virat Kohli, is an old-school cricketer, for whom Test cricket is still the ultimate format.

“I grew up watching and loving Test cricket and nothing has changed. I think it is the most challenging format because it tests your skill, stamina, mental strength,” he explained.

“Each and every Test win is incredibly satisfying,” said the Australian speedster.

With Cricket Australia has given permission to start outdoor training, Pat Cummins has kickstarted his journey to peak fitness, something he believes will take at least two months.

“It takes at least a couple of months to build back up to full pace and fitness but luckily we have some time. We started bowling two weeks ago. So, we will be ready for when we start,” said Cummins.
