The Royal Challengers Bangalore have managed to bounce back from their narrow defeat against the Chennai Super Kings in their last Indian Premier League 2023 encounter as Virat Kohli and his side managed to defeat Punjab Kings at their home by 24 runs to climb up the points table.

RCB stepped into the game with their regular skipper Faf Du Plessis stepping in as an impact player with injury concerns around him. Virat Kohli was back in filling the leadership roles for the game as Punjab Kings were led by Sam Curran for the second game in a row.

PBKS vs RCB Match Report: RCB innings:

After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a good run with the bat as skipper Virat Kohli and impact substitute Faf Du Plessis set up a 137 runs stand for the opening wicket in 16 overs. Both Virat and Faf were on the top of their game smashing the Punjab bowlers around the park.

Virat Kohli was dismissed by Harpreet Brar at the score of 59 to bring an end to the partnership while Faf Du Plessis managed to stay on the crease for a little longer managing to get up his personal total to 84 before being dismissed by Nathan Ellis.

Following Virat and Faf’s dismissal, there were no big contributions from RCB’s middle order as the side finished their innings with 174 runs on the board at the loss of 4 wickets in their designated 20 overs.

Chasing 175 runs on the board, Punjab Kings had a horrible start in the absence of regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan as the team lost 4 wickets within the powerplay leaving them in a spot of bother. Mohammed Siraj was the star of the show in the power play with the bowler picking up 2 wickets in the first 6 overs.

Prabhsimran Singh stayed on the crease during the middle overs to keep Punjab Kings in the game as he alongside Jitesh Sharma managed to keep the flow of runs going. Wayne Parnell struck breaking the crucial partnership to dismiss Prabhsimran as the game looked poised to turn in RCB’s favor.

Jitesh Sharma continued to solo stand against RCB as the wicket-keeper batter tried his best to keep his side in the game as the match went down to the wire with Punjab needing 28 runs off 15 deliveries with just 2 wickets left in hand.

Punjab lost another wicket leaving them with just a wicket remaining as Jitesh Sharma stood at 41 runs with 25 runs still required off the final 2 overs.

However, the batter could not cope under the pressure as he tried to go for a big shot against Harshal Patel but ended by finding Shahbaz Ahmed and RCB won the game by 24 runs.
