Riding on his superlative knock in the second match of the just concluded three-match One-Day International series against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma has stormed into the top five of the latest ICC ODI Player Rankings, released on Monday (December 18).

India, who were being led by Rohit, crushed Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the series-decider on Sunday in Visakhapatnam to win it by a margin of 2-1 after losing the opener in Dharamshala.

Rohit, who played a monumental knock of 208 not out in the second ODI in Mohali, moved up two places to take the fifth position in the list, and also crossed the 800-point mark for the first time in his career. The opening batsman’s career-best rank so far is three which he achieved in February last year, but he managed to cross the 800-points only after his double century in Mohali.

He had taken his tally to 825 which fell to 816 after he managed only seven in the third and final ODI.

Shikhar Dhawan, who was named the Man of the Series, also reaped the rewards for his fine outing, gaining one slot to reach the 14th position. The southpaw scored an unbeaten 100 in the final ODI and finished the series with 168 runs.

Both the spinners were instrumental in restricting Sri Lanka to a modest title in the third ODI, as they took three wickets apiece to derail the visitors’ innings. Hardik Pandya has also gained ten slots also to reach a career-best 45th position.

For Sri Lanka, their former skipper Upul Tharanga, who scored 95 on Sunday, gained 15 places to reach 36th position while wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella moved up seven places to take 37th position.

In the bowling department, pace spearhead Suranga Lakmal, who had rocked India with a four-wicket haul in Dharamshala, has jumped 14 places to take the 22nd slot while all-rounder Angelo Mathews, who resumed bowling in the series, moved up nine places to take the 45th position.
