Swashbuckling Indian opener, Rohit Sharma is excited at the early stage of the two-month long tour to the United Kingdom (UK) while starting off on a high as India thrashed Ireland by 76 runs to go 1-0 up in the two-match Twenty20 International series.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan and Sharma propelled India to 208 after losing the toss.

The pair added 160 runs for the opening wicket – to lay the foundation for the batsmen to come in. While Dhawan went after the bowlers right from the start, Rohit took his time to settle in.

Dhawan continued his rich vein of form in the UK as he played his shots right from the start.

The southpaw added 74 runs before departing in the 16th over. However, Rohit, who was playing the second handle picked up and smashed the ball all-round the park.

The inexperienced Irish bowling looked out of sorts as they went in search of the leather. Rohit, meanwhile, fell three runs short in the last over of the innings while attempting to clean the boundary ropes.

India managed to post 208 runs on the board after a blistering opening stand. In reply, Ireland didn’t look to chase down the target as they kept losing wickets.

Again the spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have mastered the task of picking wickets in any conditions. The pair shared seven wickets among themselves as the Irish batsmen looked clueless. They finished at 132 runs, thus losing the match by 76 runs.

Rohit Sharma glad to start on a high

Meanwhile, Rohit, who didn’t have a great time in the Indian Premier League with the Mumbai Indians (MI) side, played a superb knock in the first game. His form will be crucial in the long tour and will certainly bring a sigh of relief in the Indian camp.

The batsman from Mumbai took to Twitter to express his delight.

Good to be back in blues and start the tour on a good note @BCCI @SDhawan25,” Rohit wrote on Twitter.
