South African seamer Vernon Philander has showered heaps of praise on his teammate Kagiso Rabada for his brilliant show on day one of the second Test in Port Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, South Africa banked on Rabada’s fifer to take the upper hand in the game early.

South Africa bowled Australia out at a mere total of 243 before South Africa finished the day 39/1.

Rabada was again in action, this time with the bat as a night watchman. He remained unbeaten on 17 of just 14 balls including four boundaries.

It was amazing to watch:

Philander, who picked two wickets was in awe of his teammate. Further, he expressed his delight in seeing the 22-year old steaming in.

The way ‘KG’ was running in this afternoon was pretty amazing to watch,” Philander said. “The way he came across he wanted the ball‚ he wanted to bowl overs. He was phenomenal. Hats off to him about the way he went about his business,” Philander added.

Meanwhile, Rabada’s first wicket was of Australian skipper Steven Smith which raised speculation after the former brushed shoulder with Smith after getting him out. As a result, Rabada can face some actions as the match referee is likely to decide his fate today.

He would leave a big hole:

With Rabada only one point away from a suspension, the possibility of him missing the following two Test matches is yet to be ruled out. Meanwhile, Philander believes he will be a big miss if ICC decides to reprimand him for his actions.

He would leave a massive hole,” Philander said. “He’s a big part of this bowling line-up. Let’s hope that’s not the case,” he added.

Philander also feels match referee will be more sensitive following David Warner and Quinton de Kock’s spat during the first Test.

After the last game it was always going to be sensitive,” he said. “The umpires were always going to try and be in the game and try and find out what’s going on. But they’re within their rights to try and kill some bug or virus from spreading too quickly,” Philander concluded.
