Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has taken yet another sly dig at his former teammate and captain Steve Waugh. The legendary spinner has never shied away from expressing of his animosity towards Waugh. The infamous falling out between the two had taken place when Shane Warne was dropped during a Test tour of the West Indies in 1999 while Waugh was leading the team.

Shane Warne, who is Australia’s all-time highest wicket-taker in Tests, had failed to perform well in the series. He had looked like a pale shadow of his usual self as he struggled to regain his form following a shoulder operation. Waugh then got his way at a selection meeting before the fourth Test as he asked for the ex-spinner to be dropped.

In 2018, Shane Warne had called Waugh the “most selfish cricketer” in his autobiography, writing: “Steve Waugh was the most selfish player I ever played with and was only worried about averaging 50”. He had also narrated what transpired during the tour of West Indies in 1991.

As far as Waugh is concerned, the legendary captain has always said that he does not feel the need to respond to events that have happened two decades ago.

Well, Shane Warne took another dig at him on Friday on Twitter. He did so after a fan posted a stat about Waugh’s poor run-out record with his partners at international level. Responding to the tweet, the bowling great said that he has no hatred for Waugh before mentioning the latter’s record with run outs to say that he was the “most selfish cricketer”, writing:

“For the record AGAIN & I’ve said this 1000 times – I do not hate S Waugh at all. FYI – I picked him in my all time best Australian team recently. Steve was easily the most selfish cricketer that I ever played with and this stat…….”

In a previous tweet, he had posted:

The record that Shane Warne was referring to was that Waugh has been involved in 104 run outs in international cricket, the most among all batsmen. Of these 104 times, his partner was run out 73 times, giving him a partner run-outs to self run-outs ratio of 2.35.
