Team India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been India’s finest fast bowler in the last year in red-ball cricket. He was once again at his particular best in the recently concluded Test match against Bangladesh at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. He returned with seven wickets – three in the first innings, backed by four in the second as the host routed the Bangla Tigers by an innings and 130 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.

Since his return to cricket from the setback in his personal life, Mohammed Shami has come out with a different intensity. He has lost weight, looked fitter and used all the negatives to hone his craft. In the last two years, the Bengal cricketer has scalped 81 wickets at an average of 23 from 20 Test matches. He has turned out to be a real match-winner for India especially with all his exploits in the second innings. Shami has played a significant role behind Virat Kohli & Co’s dominant run in this format of the game.

Sunil Gavaskar heaps praise on Mohammed Shami

As Mohammed Shami (7) attained his career-best ICC Test Rankings for bowlers, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar hailed the fast bowler. Going into his technicalities, Gavaskar stated that he has a good wrist position and a unique to bowl in-swingers which make things difficult for the batsmen to understand. Besides, Shami possesses the art of reverse swing which makes him even more lethal in the long-format of the game.

“When he is running in. When the spider cam actually takes it, it is such a sight. It is almost like a leopard going for a kill,” said Gavaskar while talking to the host broadcaster.

“His seam position and wrist position is so good. The last-minute little flick of one finger to get the ball away and the last-minute flick of the index finger to get the ball in. Amazing. This is a skill that he has practiced,” he added.
