It was a fascinating 3rd day’s play at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg as India ended the proceedings on a commanding position and if the umpires don’t call the match off, India in all likelihood is set to end the series on a high. Beginning the day’s play on 49/1, India lost KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara pretty cheaply. However from there was a solid partnership between Kohli and Vijay which bailed them out of trouble.

Comeback man Ajinkya Rahane was at his imperious best and smashed some exquisite shots during his innings of 48 of 68 deliveries which were studded with eight fours. Captain Virat Kohli scored 41 and looked in ominous touch, and along with Rahane the duo took India out of trouble. Towards the fag end of the innings, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami who shared a valuable partnership and Shami, in particular, struck some lusty blows which took India to 249.

India gave them South Africa a total of 241 to chase, and in the initial stages, it was Mohammad Shami wh removed Aiden Markram with a sensational delivery which rose from the length and Parthiv Patel pouched it behind the stumps. Meanwhile, the pitch misbehaved all through the day, and there were times when the match was in jeopardy and was about to be called off. However, if both captains decide the match will continue and in all likelihood, India is ready to end the series 2-1 in their favour.
