Twitter Reacts As Mumbai Indians Beat Sunrisers Hyderabad To Enter Playoffs
Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad via Super Over to become the third team this season to make it to the IPL playoffs.
Chasing 163, Sunrisers Hyderabad started well with Wriddhiman Saha going all out. The wicketkeeper-batsman powered Sunrisers to 40 runs inside 4 overs before falling to Jasprit Bumrah. He scored 25 from just 15 balls. A bit later, Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson departed too, leaving the Sunrisers reeling at 65 for 3. Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar then stopped the rot and took the score close to the 100-run mark.
But just when it looked Sunrisers would take the driver’s seat, Krunal Pandya accounted for Shankar while Hardik Pandya dismissed Abhishek Sharma to reduce Sunrisers to 105 for 4 from 98 for 3. But Pandey and Mohammad Nabi kept Sunrisers’ hopes alive and brought the chase back on track. The equation was finally down to 17 runs from the final over. The first two balls yielded two singles before Nabi hit a six to spice things up. However, he holed up on the next delivery to leave the equation to 9 from last two balls. Pandey then hit a last-ball six to force a Super Over.
MANISH PANDEY!!!! WE LOVE YOU FOR THAT!!!! ????#OrangeArmy #RiseWithUs #MIvSRH

In the Super Over, Jasprit Bumrah conceded just eight runs as Pandey was run out while Nabi was castled. Hardik Pandya then all but sealed the game by hitting Rashid Khan’s first ball for a six before a single and a double took the hosts home with three balls remaining.
Earlier in the innings, Mumbai Indians ended on 162 for 5 after Rohit Sharma surprisingly decided to bat first. Rohit stared well with the bat and hit five boundaries but could not convert it into a big score, falling for 24 to Khaleel Ahmed. A 54-run stand between Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav gave the middle-order batsmen an opportunity to capitalise on the start but they failed.
Innings Break!
After opting to bat first, the @mipaltan post a total of 162/5. Will this be enough to defend?#MIvSRH pic.twitter.com/VrszpSpA2E

De Kock waged a lone battle and scored an unbeaten 69 while the likes of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard failed to get going. For the Sunrisers, Khaleel impressed again by claiming his 4th 3-wicket haul of the tournament. On the other hand, Afghanistan duo of Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also impressed as the trio conceded just 72 runs off their 12 overs while also picking up 2 wickets.

Easy win. India need to preserve Bumrah and Hardik. Huge assets to have.

Stunning finish — or not as yet — to the match! Mumbai looked like they had made fine defence of modest score by creaming off Hyderabad’s top order. Except @im_manishpandey, and what a hand he’s played to take it to the Super Over

Why send Pandya and Pollard when you need only 9? Why not Surya first? It can get over in two balls but Rashid will fancy himself againt these two.

Manish Pandey has rediscovered his lost touch in such a fine manner that watching him struggle to score runs seems like a distant memory now.

Pandey has been batting on a different plane in the last few games. Great intent in his strokeplay, real hustle in his running. Unfortunate how a batsman and an athlete of his skill hasn't played a lot more for the national team.

Shankar's stocks have fallen drastically since the IPL began ??♂️

Today De Kock (thus far) has played the kind of innings that opposition doesn’t mind one bit…. #MIvSRH

162 is sub-par for #MI. Batted conservatively.

Rohit doesn't usually give two overs to bumrah in pp, but gave today and got wicket of guptil and brought slip too. A player Can win you matches but A captain will win you trophies. ? #MIvSRH

Effectively today's match #MIvSRH is a qualifier. If #MI win, they go to 16 and are through. If #SRH win, they reach 14 but their NRR is so good that it is virtually impossible to catch up with them. Also, if #SRH win, then #RR are definitely out.
