"Never Expected": Varun Chakravarthy On His Maiden India T20I Call-Up

Tamil Nadu spinner Varun Chakravarthy impressed one and all to break into the India T20 squad for Australia tour. Chakravarthy, who was bought for a big sum ahead of the previous edition of the IPL, is proving his worth with some brilliant performances in the IPL 2020. He is also excited to representing the national team in Australia.

Chakravarthy became the first bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul in IPL 2020. His performance continues to help KKR in the tournament. He has earned his place in the squad ahead of premier India spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Australia’s Chris Green.

Chakravarthy said that India call-up is a big thing for him and he never expected to get one. He, however, mentioned that it was a surreal feeling on being picked up and will try to put his best foot forward in the tour. He also wants to win the IPL 2020 with Kolkata Knight Riders and play regularly for the team.

“It feels surreal to be picked for Australia T20Is. India call-up is definitely a big thing for me. I was really not expecting it,” Chakravarthy said in an interview for bcci.tv.

“My basic goal in this year’s IPL was to play for the team regularly and contribute to the wins. Thankfully, I was able to do well till now and hopefully I will be able to perform for the Indian team as well,” Chakravarthy said.

“I just want to thank all the selectors who kept faith on me,” added the mystery spinner.

Earlier, Chakravarthy turned out be an overnight sensation with his brilliant bowling against Delhi Capitals. Chakravarthy not only helped his side clinch victory against the serious contenders for IPL 2020 with his five-wicket haul but also overshadowed the likes of Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine with his performance.
