IND vs SA: Watch - Cheteshwar Pujara's Drop Costs Team India 5 Penalty Runs After Ball Hits Helmet

Team India was penalised five penalty runs after Cheteshwar Pujara’s drop saw the ball roll backward and hit the helmet that was kept behind the wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant.
Temba Bavuma was the batter facing Shardul Thakur when the incident happened in South Africa’s first innings. Bavuma chased after a wide delivery in a bid to cut but ended up nicking the ball towards the left of the first slip.

Pujara, who was stationed there, was undone by Pant diving for the ball and ended up shelling the catch. Adding insult to injury, the ball slowly rolled onto the helmet kept on the ground which cost India five penalty runs.

At the time, India was in need of wickets as the partnership between Bavuma and Keegan Petersen was blossoming quite well. Both batters looked extremely comfortable at the crease and the incident only frustrated Virat Kohli and co. even more.

However, soon after, Mohammed Shami, proved to be the difference-maker as he snared the wickets of Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne in the space of three deliveries. Jasprit Bumrah then removed Marco Jansen before Tea to put India in pole position in the match.
