Meanwhile, Guptill who was looking dangerous in the middle smashed a wonderful no-look 98 metre six to Deepak Chahar in the first ball of 18th over. Guptill didn’t even look at the ball which went for a maximum instead he was staring at Chahar and the bowler didn’t even dare to give him a stare and went for the second delivery.

In the second ball Guptill once again tried to smash it for a six but was caught by Shreyas Iyer at deep mid-wicket. Now it was Chahar’s turn to give Guptill a stare and the opener put his head down and started walking back to the dugout after scoring 70 runs off 42 deliveries including 4 sixers and 3 fours.

India won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar opened the bowling for the team and he castled Daryl Mitchell for a golden duck. Deepak Chahar bowled the second over and conceded 9 runs. Then Bhuvneshwar, Mohammed Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin bowled good overs but Deepak Chahar conceded 2 fours and a maximum in the 6th over, gave 15 runs and New Zealand ended the powerplay at 41/1. After that Mark Chapman and Martin Guptill batted cautiously and helped New Zealand score 65 runs in 10 overs.

Veteran off-spinner Ashwin got the second breakthrough for India as he broke the 109 runs off 77 balls partnership between Martin Guptill and Mark Chapman in the 14th over. In the second ball, Ashwin dismissed Chapman and in 5th ball of the same over, he dismissed Glenn Phillips.
