Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant failed to have an impact on the first ODI as he was stumped down the leg side courtesy of some quick glove work from South African keeper, Quinton de Kock.
India was dominating their run chase of 297 until Shikhar Dhawan fell. He scored 79 before being bowled by Keshav Maharaj. Soon after, Virat Kohli was also sent back but not before scoring his fifty.
Pant and Shreyas Iyer had the responsibility on their shoulders but the latter fell before Pant was undone by an innocuous delivery down the leg side. He tried to flick medium pacer, Andile Phehlukwayo but failed to make contact.
His forward momentum took him out of the crease and de Kock, who was standing up to the bowler, removed the stumps in lightning-quick fashion to end Pant’s stay at the crease.

Earlier, South Africa set up a competitive total of 296/4 on the board courtesy of twin centuries from the captain, Temba Bavuma, and Rassie van der Dussen. The former played the anchor’s role while Rassie took on that of the aggressor.
They stitched a fourth-wicket partnership of 204 runs which dug South Africa out of the hole they had created for themselves at 68/3.
