The 20-year-old Mumbai batter Yashasvi Jaiswal showed some extraordinary patience in the Ranji Trophy 2022 semi-final against Uttar Pradesh as he opened his account after facing 53 deliveries.
The semi-final of the marquee domestic competition, Ranji Trophy, between Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh is being played at the Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru. Star opener Prithvi Shaw is leading the Mumbai team in the match and Karan Sharma is the skipper of Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh had won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The decision didn’t favour the side as Mumbai batters looked in brilliant touch and they were able to post 393/10 on the board in the first innings.
Hardik Tamore top-scored for the side as he scored 115 runs off 233 balls, including 12 fours and 1 six. Yashasvi Jaiswal also scored a century as he smashed 100 runs off 227 balls including 15 fours. From Uttar Pradesh, Karan Sharma was the best performer as he bagged a 4-wicket haul.
In their first innings, Uttar Pradesh got bowled out for 180 runs and all the Mumbai bowlers did a great job.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Opens His Account On His 54th Ball With A Boundary
In the third innings of the match, Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw was playing his natural aggressive game and his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal was just defending one ball after the other and he was struggling to open his account in the 53 deliveries he faced.
Yashasvi Jaiswal finally opened his account on the 54th ball of his innings with a boundary and he instantly raised his bat to celebrate the first run milestone.
Along with the Mumbai dugout, the Uttar Pradesh team applauded the young opener as soon as he opened his account after showing great patience and facing over 50 balls.

Meanwhile, the opening partnership between Prithvi Shaw and Jaiswal was of 66 runs amongst which Shaw had contributed 64 runs, which is 96.96% of the total runs, and Jaiswal had contributed nothing as the two runs were extras.
This is overall the highest contribution by a batter in 50+ opening stand in first-class cricket and 134 years old record has been broken in First-class cricket. The record was held by Percy McDonnell, who scored 82 runs in 86 runs partnership, which was 95.34% of the total runs, in 1888 for Australia against North.
At Stumps, on Day 3, Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting at 35 with Armaan Jaffer at 32 and Mumbai were at 133/1.
