Indian captain Virat Kohli had endured a forgetful tour of New Zealand as his side finds itself on the brink of losing the Test series by a margin of 2-0. Amongst his overseas trips so far, the ongoing tour of New Zealand has been his worst by a mile with the bat.

The Delhi-born star right-handed batsman became a victim of Colin de Grandhomme on the day two of the second Test in Christchurch, to pull curtains on a torrid visit.

Owing to the current tour, Virat played nine matches out of ten. He leads the Indian side to a victory in the T20 format by 5-0 but lost the ODI series by 3-0. And the number one Test team looks on track to lose the Test series as well.

Aside from the fifth T20 international in Mount Maunganui, Virat has played all the games in the leg. In total, the Delhi batsman has managed to muster only 218 runs at a meagre average of 19.81 in 11 innings on the present tour of New Zealand.

In four innings comprised of two Tests in Wellington and Christchurch, Kohli has scores of 2, 19, 3, and 14.

The 31-year old began it by scoring 45 in the first T20I in Auckland before making scores of 11, 38, and 11 in the next three. He scored 51 in the first ODI in Hamilton before managing 15 and 9.

Meanwhile, his previous worst record on a full tour was against the Englishmen on their home turf in 2014 in which he managed 254 runs across 15 innings.

Hence, it showcases a severe blow for a batsman, who was earmarked to make a massive impact on this tour.

The Test series paints an even more gloomy picture for Kohli. He entered this series as the number one Test batsman; however, owing to his poor form, he has slid to the second position.

Kohli’s average of 9.50 is the second-lowest for him in a Test series while his all-time low came against Australia on India’s home turf in which he averaged 9.20 across five innings while managing 46 runs. His third-lowest average of 13.40 across ten innings came against England in 2014 in which he managed 134 runs.
