He scored 57 runs before his knock was cut short in the final over of the innings with a stunning piece of catch by debutant Shahbaz Ahmed.

Steve Smith had started his IPL campaign with two fifties, helping his team win both the games. But his form dipped after that as he registered scores of 3, 5, 6, 24, 5 and 1. But on Saturday, he bounced back in style to help his side post a challenging total of 177 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs.

Batting first, Royals were off to a good start with openers Robin Uthappa and Ben Stokes sharing 50 runs for the first wicket in less than 6 overs. But they soon lost both their openers as well as Sanju Samson to find themselves three down for just 69.

But before RCB could make further inroads in the match, Steve Smith and Jos Buttler steadied the ship. The duo shared a 58-run stand to revive the innings before Chris Morris sent back the England star. Steve Smith, on the other hand, went on to complete a fine fifty.

The Royals skipper was looking set to finish the innings unbeaten before Shahbaz Ahmed came up with a brilliant piece of fielding. On the second ball of the final over bowled by Morris, Steve Smith lifted a wider delivery outside off towards deep cover.

At first, it looked like the ball would easily cross the boundary. However, Shahbaz had other plans. He dived in time to take an absolute stunner and send back the Royals batting star.
