Rajasthan Royals have lacked the Indian quality players in their squad for the most part and they must look to add more options into their squad for the IPL 2022 auction. They have relied so much on their overseas players which might not be the best thing to do in the upcoming years.
The teams that have been successful have always built their Indian core strong and this has been the area where Royals needs to be wise in the auctions. Apart from the skipper Sanju Samson, they must bring in quality Indian batsmen who will have consistent impacts. Here are 5 former players Rajasthan Royals should target in IPL 2022 auction.
5 Former Players Rajasthan Royals Should Target In IPL 2022 Auction:
Deepak Hooda:
Deepak Hooda had an impressive IPL in this edition as he started off with a brilliant fifty for the Punjab Kings. He faded off after that, but his innings certainly showed a lot of promise and he can bowl some good off-spin too. Hooda can be a better option for the Rajasthan Royals more than a Riyan Parag or a Shivam Dube.
Hooda played for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2014 and 2015 editions and is most unlikely to be retained by his franchise despite his good show at times. He can hit the long sixes and was part of the Indian side despite not making his debut in Indian colors.
Rahul Tripathi:
Rahul Tripathi played for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 and 2019 editions and wasn’t used as the opening batsmen where he relished batting. With Royals struggling to find a quality Indian opener, Rahul Tripathi could be used at the top of the order again.
Ajinkya Rahane:
Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t found his best form in the last two years and hasn’t got many opportunities to prove his worth too. He is one of the most underrated cricketers in the T20 format and his numbers in IPL is too good to be ignored. He was the captain of the franchise in the 2018 edition and took the team to the playoffs.
Rahane has been the highest run-scorer for Royals in their entire IPL history and he can play the anchor role to perfection in the Royals lineup. With all the overseas stars in the squad, Rahane could be the much-needed Indian batter for them apart from Samson.
Ben Cutting:
Cutting is one of the best all-rounders going around in T20 globally and he is very destructive at the death overs. He is one of the fearsome finishers and can be used in the inexperienced middle order for the Rajasthan Royals. He can also contribute with the ball with his variations.
Kane Richardson:
Richardson played for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2014 edition and could be a key player for them again in the next edition. They have been lacking death bowlers and Richardson could give them four overs in the powerplay as well as in the death overs.
