The IPL over the years has seen several bowlers make a name for themselves in the tournament. It has provided a platform for both youngsters and experienced bowlers to showcase their talent. While some have gone onto becoming legends, others became great prospects for their respective national teams. The art of bowling in T20s has also evolved with bowlers developing a wide range of deliveries as a part of their bowling arsenal.

The likes of Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Chris Jordan, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine amongst others are specialist bowlers in this format. However, all except Narine do not boast of a good economy. In this article, we take a look at the 5 most economical bowlers in IPL history.

The Australian quick played three seasons between 2010-2012 with Chennai Super Kings and picked 37 wickets from 27 games. He provided a wicket-taking option to skipper MS Dhoni in the seasons that he played. He also boasted of a good economy which read 7.21 across his career.

4) Mitchell Starc- 7.16

Starc played just two seasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore and picked up 34 wickets from 27 games. In just two seasons, Starc is amongst the 5 most economical bowlers in the league’s history. He maintained an economy rate of 7.16 throughout the two seasons that he played. He is among the international cricketers who have chosen international commitments over big bucks in the IPL. Starc last played in 2015 in the league.

3) Lasith Malinga- 7.14

Malinga is the league’s highest wicket-taker. He has taken 170 wickets from 122 games and is now retired from the format. Amit Mishra (166) and Piyush Chawla (156) are next in the list with the most wickets. Malinga also maintained a healthy economic rate of 7.14

2) Jofra Archer- 7.13

Despite playing way lesser games than the other bowlers in the list, Jofra Archer boasts of a good economy rate in the league. He has been playing for Rajasthan Royals since 2018. He has picked up 46 wickets in 35 games maintaining an economy of 7.13. He will miss out on the remaining phase of IPL 2021.

1) Dale Steyn 6.91

Dale Steyn tops the list of bowlers with the best economy rate in the IPL. He bowls at 6.91 per over. Kohli primarily uses him at the start for two overs and at the death for a couple. At times, he has proved costly at the death but more often than not the South African pacer has risen up to the occasion.
