Prior to the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, teams like England, India, and West Indies were labelled as the favourites to lift the title. However, all three teams are now eliminated from the title race.
India and West Indies couldn’t make a top-two finish in the Super 12 stage, while England lost to New Zealand in the first semi-final on Thursday.
The Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 saw some terrific performances both with the bat and ball. However, several players failed to live up to the expectations and endured disappointing performances. On that note, here’s a look at the Flop XI of the Super 12 stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021: Flop XI Of The Super 12 Stage
Openers: Chris Gayle and Quinton de Kock

Out of the five matches played in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, there wasn’t a single occasion when South Africa didn’t lose a wicket in the power play. South Africa got the worst possible starts in all the matches. Their designated opener, Quinton de Kock failed to get the team off to solid starts at the top. He got out on low scores on almost all occasions. In 4 matches, he managed to score only 69 runs at an average of 17.25.
Universal Boss, Chris Gayle, who was, apparently, playing his last ICC tournament, couldn’t entertain either. There is no denying that he looks a shadow of his former self. The southpaw didn’t make an impact in a single game in the tournament. In 5 matches, he managed to score only 45 runs at an average of 9.
Middle-Order: Shakib Al Hasan, Glenn Maxwell, and Mushfiqur Rahim

Shakib Al Hasan was brilliant in the first round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He scored runs consistently and played a big role with both bat and ball in helping Bangladesh reach the Super 12 stage.
However, the southpaw couldn’t replicate those performances in the Super 12 round. In the three matches he played in the Super 12 round, he scored 10, 4, and 9.
Glenn Maxwell came into the tournament on the back of exceptional performances in IPL 2021. However, he looked like a completely different batsman in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Every time he tried to play shots, he got out. In 5 matches, he scored only 29 runs in the Super 12 stage at an average of 9.67.
Bangladesh’s seni0r batsman, Mushfiqur Rahim too was one of the biggest flops in the tournament. Given the fact that there aren’t a lot of match-winners in Bangladesh’s team, a lot was expected from Mushfiqur Rahim. However, he failed to live up to those expectations. Barring an unbeaten 57-run knock against Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh cricketer didn’t make any useful contribution.
All-rounders: Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo

The West Indies’ experienced duo of Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo are two of the biggest match-winners in T20 cricket. They have vast experience of playing different T20 franchise tournaments across the globe.
However, neither of them could perform on the big stage and help their side reach the semis. Pollard scored 90 runs in 5 matches, while Bravo scored 26.
There is no denying that Dwayne Bravo is one of the best bowlers in the shortest format. However, he could only pick 2 wickets with the ball in the entire Super 12 stage. Given the way he bowled for CSK on the same surfaces, his performance in the T20 World Cup left everyone surprised.
Bowlers: Keshav Maharaj, Hasan Ali, Ravi Rampaul and Varun Chakravarthy

Hasan Ali is the only bowler in the Pakistan bowling line-up who perhaps didn’t bowl well in the Super 12 stage. He conceded runs a lot more than he should have and only picked 5 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 32.60.
West Indies seamer, Ravi Rampaul was selected on the basis of his performance in CPL 2021. However, even he failed to replicate those in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He was the leading wicket-taker in CPL 2021 but picked only 2 wickets in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup.
It won’t be wrong to say that there was little mystery in Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy’s spin in ICC T20 World Cup. He didn’t give a lot of runs but didn’t pick a lot of wickets either-something which was needed out of him.
Besides, Keshav Maharaj should complete the Flop XI. Of all the bowlers in the South Africa attack, Keshav Maharaj looked the least impressive. In 5 matches, he picked only 3 wickets at an average of 42.33
