T20 World Cup 2021: Tymal Mills Injured & Ruled Out Of The Tournament
England fast bowler Tymal Mills will not be taking further part in the ongoing T20 World Cup as the bowler’s injury has ruled him out of the tournament, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Wednesday.
Mills suffered an injury while bowling in a Super 12 match against Sri Lanka on Monday night. He was forced to walk off the field following which, Chris Woakes, completed his over. Mills was soon after taken for scans and they revealed that the right thigh strain was enough to end his tournament.
“Mills sustained the injury bowling in the T20 World Cup Super 12s match against Sri Lanka on Monday in Sharjah. Results of the scan on Tuesday night revealed the extent of the injury,” the statement from ECB read.
Reece Topley has been named as his replacement in the England World Cup squad. Surrey’s Topley was part of the squad as a traveling reserve and should be available for their game against South Africa this week. He last played a T20I against South Africa back in 2016 but is in good shape at the moment.
Mills had done quite decently in his return to England’s white-ball picture. He played in all their four Super 12 matches, taking four wickets at 15.42. His return has been abruptly ended but Mills has done enough to warrant a place in the T20I squad for the future.
