Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has become the only third bowler in the history of the T20 World Cups to pick a hat-trick, Overall he is the 23rd bowler in the history of T20 Internationals to bag a hat-trick.
Wanindu Hasaranga bagged a hat-trick in the 25th match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday, October 30.
Notably, the legendary Australian pacer Brett Lee became the first player to pick a hat-trick in a T20 World Cup match and the second player was Ireland’s Curtis Campher.
Brett Lee bagged the sensational hat-trick in the 2007 edition of the T20 World Cup against Bangladesh in Cape Town. He was able to dismiss Shakib Al Hassan, Mashrafe Mortaza and Alok Kapali in three consecutive deliveries and helped Australia win the game.
Meanwhile, Curtis Campher picked a hat-trick in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 match against the Netherlands on October 18. He became the second bowler to pick a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup and he also became the third bowler in the history of T20Is after Lasith Malinga and Rashid Khan to take 4 wickets in four consecutive deliveries.

In the T20 World Cup 2021 game against South Africa, Wanindu Hasaranga in the last delivery of the 15th over picked the wicket of number 3 ranked T20I batsman Aiden Markram. Then he was handed over the ball by Dasun Shanaka in the 18th over and he went to pick the wickets of captain Temba Bavuma in the first ball and Dwaine Pretorius in the next ball. However, this was not enough to stop South Africa from winning the match and they won the game by 4 wickets and Hasaranga’s hat-trick went in vain.
Meanwhile, in T20 Internationals Sri Lankan bowlers have the most number of hat-tricks (5). Australian bowlers are ranked second having picked 3 T20Is hat-tricks and New Zealand and Pakistan bowlers have achieved this milestone twice. Also, Legendary Sri Lanka speedster Lasith Malinga is the only bowler with multiple T20 International hat-tricks.
