ICC T20 World Cup 2022: No Doubt Cameron Green Is Putting Pressure On Marcus Stoinis, But It's Pretty Hard To Change That Squad – Mark Taylor

Former Australia National Cricket Team captain Mark Taylor has urged the Cricket Australia (CA) selectors to resist the calls to include the 23-year-old all-rounder Cameron Green in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad of Australia, asserting “it’s a bit late to change now”.
Green was in sensational form with the bat in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against India, where the Men In Blue won by 2-1. In the first T20I at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh on Tuesday, September 20, the young all-rounder smashed 61 runs off 30 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes.

In the second T20I, which was an eight-overs-a-side contest, at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur on Friday, September 23, Cameron Green was able to score only 5 runs off 4 balls. However, in the 3rd T20I on Sunday, September 25, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad, the all-rounder scored 52 runs off 21 balls, including 7 four and 3 sixes. With the ball, he only bagged 1 wicket in the series.
Speaking to Wide World Of Sports, as quoted by zerowicket, the former Australia captain Taylor said that Green is putting pressure on the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh, but it’s a bit late to make any changes to the World Cup squad of the team. He elaborated:
“I’d be sticking with the 15 they’ve already selected. I think it’s a bit late to change now. He grabbed the opportunity to open the batting, and full credit to him for doing that. That’s the spot in T20 cricket – the further up the order you can get, the better.
“There’s no doubt now he is putting pressure on Marcus Stoinis, although (Stoinis) is the incumbent and Australia won (the World Cup) last year, so it’s pretty hard to change that squad.”
Great news for Australia is that Cameron Green is showing us he is a very good all-round cricketer – Mark Taylor
He further said that Green performing well as an all-rounder is great news for the Australia National Cricket Team. He also talked about Marsh and said that the star player deserves to be part of Australia’s World Cup playing XI after his terrific performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. Former Australia captain said:
“Mitchell Marsh, if you look at what he did during that World Cup, he had a terrific tournament, I think batting at three. He grabbed that spot and deserves that spot.
“But the great news for Australia is that Cameron Green is showing us he is a very good all-round cricketer. So there is enormous pressure on all those all-rounders, which is what you want.”
