The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 for India is a great chance to end their trophy drought since 2013. MS Dhoni won the ICC Champions Trophy that year and since then the Men in Blue have come close to winning an ICC title twice but could not eventually win it. They reached the finals of the ICC 2017 Champions Trophy and the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2019 but lost out on both occasions.

The build-up to the T20 World Cup for India is pretty huge given how they were knocked out from the tournament last year. They lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in back to back games to bow out of the tournament. The team thus has to look to correct their mistakes as they look to win that elusive title.

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team this time around after taking over from Virat Kohli who decided to step down as captain after the T20 World Cup last year. Eventually, Rohit also took over as India’s Test captain and now is India’s all-format captain. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at India’s predicted 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

India Squad For ICC T20 World Cup 2022

Batsmen: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer

Rohit will open the batting along with KL Rahul. Virat has also opened the batting in the past and so he is another option as a potential opener. If Virat opens, Rahul can drop to number three and one among SKY or Shreyas will be India’s number four. SKY is ahead in that race than Iyer given his ability to play 360 degree around the wicket. Iyer was one of the standby players in the last T20 World Cup for India but might find himself in the main squad this year.

One among Pant and Karthik will be India’s designated keeper for the T20 World Cup 2022. Karthik is usually seen as a finisher and thus Pant offers to bat himself at number five. He can also open the batting and bat at four if required. The southpaw recently scored a Test and an ODI century against England and needs to translate his form into T20Is.

All-Rounders: Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja

Both Jadeja and Pandya were a part of India’s last T20 World Cup squad as well. However, they return as better players heading into the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and are guaranteed selections given their recent form. Hardik has returned fitter and stronger and is bowling long spells as well. Jadeja has developed himself into a dependable all-rounder for India across formats.

Pacers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar has been out of cricket since the T20 World Cup last year. He also missed the IPL due to his long-standing injury and is yet to play cricket in 2022. He will surely make it to the T20 World Cup if he gets fit in time. Bumrah, Bhuvi and Shami are the other three pacers who should be selected in the squad. The trio were a part of the squad in the last T20 World Cup as well.

Spinners : Yuzvendra Chahal , Kuldeep Yadav

Chahal and Kuldeep are India’s best combination for the T20 World Cup 2022. The BCCI selected Ravichandran Ashwin, Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy for the last T20 World Cup which did not work out as expected. While Chahal is in the form of his life, Kuldeep is among the most experienced spinners among the recent ones that India has tried out.
