Australia are the host of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They were supposed to host the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup but it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Later, they got the rights to ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
Sri Lanka defeated UAE and Netherlands after losing to Namibia in their first qualifier to make it to the Super 12s. Ireland, on the other hand, defeated Scotland and West Indies after losing to Zimbabwe in their first qualifier.
Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie is a confident captain after leading his team to the Super 12s. He scored a crucial 37 off 23 balls that laid the platform for Ireland to win the game against West Indies.
“It (win) means everything. We had a disappointing loss last year at the same stage. We did a lot of thinking and a lot of things changed back home. New coach and there were a couple of things that we wanted to do as a team, the way we wanted to play. Losing the first game and then coming back and beating a two-time champion in a must-win game … just couldn’t be prouder. Pretty emotional finish to the game, but we are just delighted as a group. A lot of things can happen on your day in T20 cricket. We could be playing our next game here, we’ve played three here and that could be in our favour. We want to pit ourselves against the best” said Balbirnie.
