The ICC Women's rankings determine the players and teams' rank in all the three formats of the game. The rankings are determined by a comprehensive system devised by the ICC. Several factors are taken into account while calculating the rating points for the teams and players.
For the players rankings of the ICC Women's rankings, there are basically three categories. The players are ranked as batters, bowlers and allrounders. At present, the ICC updates rankings for women only in ODIs and T20Is. One of the main reasons behind it could be the limited number of Tests taking place in women's cricket.
Just like the player rankings, the ICC women's rankings for teams are also divided into three categories. The categories represent the three formats of international cricket. The ICC also does not update the ranking for teams in Tests.
The players and the teams are ranked on the basis of different factors. Just the performance of the player or the team is not enough. Apart from the performance, the ICC's algorithm also takes into account other factors such as quality of the opposition and match conditions.
The ICC Women's rankings are updated regularly although the timing is different for the players and team's rankings. The team's rankings are updated after every series in Tests and after every match in ODIs and T20Is. On the other hand, the player rankings are updated every Wednesday.
