Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj is currently playing her sixth World Cup. Earlier today, India began their World Cup against Pakistan with Mithali leading her team as well. In the process, she equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of playing six World Cups.

This is Mithali Raj’s sixth World Cup for the national team. She started her career in 2000 and since then has featured in five 50-over World Cups before this in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and now in 2022. Tendulkar featured in six world cups between 1992 to 2011. She is also just the third cricketer overall to play six World Cups after Sachin Tendulkar and Javed Miandad.

“We’ll bat. It’s a good wicket to bat. put up a big total and put pressure on them. We’re going with three seamers and three spinners. We want to go into the tournament with a clean slate, take some momentum from the last game which we won against New Zealand. The hunger to do well in WCs has kept me going,” Mithali Raj said at the toss.

India scored 244 batting first on the back of scores by Smriti Mandhana (52), Deepti Sharma (40) at the top of the order. This was followed by scores from Sneh Rana (53*) and Pooja Vastrakar (67).
