The Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team faced a humiliating whitewash in the three-match home Test series against the Ben Stokes-led England National Cricket Team.

It was the first time that the Asian heavyweights got whitewashed at home and it was also the first time they lost four Tests on the trot on home soil, having been beaten by Australia in Lahore in March. However, they can still make it to the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final.

England showcased sheer dominance in their first Test tour of Pakistan in 17 years. The visitors played their aggressive ‘Bazball’ brand of cricket in the three-match series and the hosts simply couldn’t compete.

In the first Test in Rawalpindi, Ben Stokes-led England won by 74 runs and in the second Test in Multan, England won by 26 runs. In the third and final Test in Karachi, the Three Lions thrashed the Babar Azam-led side by 8 wickets to register a 3-0 clean sweep.

England are already out of contention for a place in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final, but they ended their campaign on a high, winning 9 of their last 10 matches. However, Pakistan are still in the race, but they need just too many results to go their way to make the final.

Babar Azam & Co. had a great chance of entering the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 as they had to play 5 home Test games – three against England and two against New Zealand, which are yet to start.

They were in the third spot on the points table, before the series against England, but now they have dropped down to the seventh spot with 38.89 percentage points.

To make the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23, Pakistan will, first of all, have to win their remaining two games against New Zealand National Cricket Team to reach 47.62 percentage points.

Then they need several other results to go their way. The Men In Green need Australia to whitewash South Africa and India as well as they need India to lose the second Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

The Babar Azam & Co. also need the inaugural World Test Champions New Zealand to win both their home Tests against Sri Lanka. Finally, they need West Indies to defeat South Africa by 1-0 in the two-match series.
