Updated ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 Points Table After Pakistan vs Australia 2nd Test
The second Test between Australia and Pakistan ended in another draw after an enthralling Day 5 in Karachi. Once again, the two teams ended up pocketing only four points in the ICC’s World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
After much ado about the surface that was prepared in Rawalpindi, there were expectations that the Karachi surface would help the spinners. However, it wasn’t to be and the pitch turned out to be a carbon copy of the first Test surface.
Once again, the batters had the time of their lives and the bowlers were left toiling hard. It was Australia this time that began and put up 556 on the board courtesy of a 160-run knock from Usman Khawaja. He was well assisted by Steve Smith (72) and Alex Carey (93).
There were no demons in the pitch when Pakistan batted but a spectacular spell from Mitchell Starc, where he made the ball talk, ended up flooring Pakistan. They were blown away for 148 in response, conceding a lead of 408 runs.
The Aussies opted to bat once again in order to give their bowlers their well-deserved rest and go for the kill on Day 4 and 5. They played aggressively and declared with a lead of 505 runs, setting an improbable target of 506 for the Pakistanis.
This time around, there was much better application from the home team with skipper, Babar Azam leading the way. He scored 196, which is the highest-ever individual score by a captain in the fourth innings of a Test match.
There were some late jitters on Day 5 when Babar fell just 4 runs short of his maiden double century but Mohammad Rizwan ensured that they could eke out a draw after being behind for most of the game scoring a century.
