Wasim Jaffer believes that Team India needs to come up with a stronger bowling strategy for the hot-hitting Tom Latham of New Zealand.

During the first ODI, Latham’s heroics in the middle overs went unanswered by the Indian bowling unit. At Auckland’s Eden Park, the left-handed batter amassed a career-high ODI score of 145* as New Zealand successfully chased down 307.

With his superb sweeping skills, Latham expertly neutralised the spinners and made good use of the short boundaries. By scoring an unbroken 94 off 98 deliveries, captain Kane Williamson proved to be the ideal partner at the other end.

India Should Look To Bowl Better In The Third ODI: Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer stated on ESPNcricinfo that India must produce a better bowling effort to tie the series:

“India should look to bowl better in the third ODI and try to come up with a better plan against Latham. Irrespective of the result, we want to see a good game of cricket.”

Jaffer continued:  “Indian fans have to go through so much trouble to watch the game. There is still a forecast for heavy rain, but I hope that the rain stays away.”

In the three-match series, New Zealand presently leads 1-0 and is aiming to win their 14th straight ODI at home. Rain, though, appears poised to cause trouble once more. The tour will have to come to an unfortunate conclusion because Christchurch is expected to experience heavy rain.

Tom Latham’s Wicket Will Be A Priority For India: Wasim Jaffer

Tom Latham has a history of making an impression on the Indians, as evidenced by his match-winning performance in the opening ODI. The southpaw has a more than stellar record against the Men in Blue, scoring 846 runs at an average of 65.08 in 17 innings in one-day international play.

According to former Indian batsman Jaffer, Tom Latham poses a serious threat because of his capacity to have an impact on the game during the middle overs:

“Tom Latham is a huge threat to the Indian side, because of the way he operates in the middle overs against spin by counter-attacking. His wicket will be a priority for India. Williamson is also another important player, but India will be focusing on their own strengths.”

On Wednesday, November 30, at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, India and New Zealand will face off in the third and final one-day international of the series.
