India batting coach Vikram Rathour has said that the senior middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane is “ trying his best ” and he is looking really good while batting in the nets.
Ajinkya Rahane retained his place in the playing XI for the Cape Town Test against South Africa after his half-century in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test match. However, he once again got out early as he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada at the score of 9 on Day 1 of the third and final Test match of the series at Newlands, Cape Town on Tuesday.

Talking about Rahane in a press-conference Vikram Rathour said that Rahane has played a couple of useful innings in the 3-match series against South Africa but the main concern is he is unable to convert good starts into big scores.
“No specific numbers are being discussed. He is trying his best, he is looking really, really good when he is batting in the nets and even when he is batting in the middle – he has played a couple of useful innings in this series as well. The only concern is he needs to convert one of these starts into a big one, and that’s what he is trying,” Rathour told media after the end of the first day’s play.
Notably, Rahane scored good 48 runs in the first Test match at SuperSport Park, Centurion and 58 runs in the second Test at the Wanderers, Johannesburg.
Management Will Want To Give One Extra Chance Than One Less – Vikram Rathour
The India batting coach further added that the team management wants to give “ one extra chance” to a player like Ajinkya Rahane and was hoping he does well in the second innings. He said:
“We just hope as a team management that he comes good in one of these innings. I can assure you that this management will want to give one extra chance than one less, so we will always err on that side, we will of course give one more opportunity than we think somebody deserves.”
At Stumps on Day 1 South Africa were at 17/1 and they were trailing by 206 runs with Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj on the crease. Earlier, India scored 223 in the first innings, with the help of Virat Kohli’s brilliant 79 runs.
