IND vs SA: Dinesh Karthik Reveals How KL Rahul Has Made Technical Changes In His Batting Style To Excell In Tests

Dinesh Karthik praised KL Rahul after the latter slammed a century in the ongoing IND vs SA 1st Test. Rahul played a knock of 122 runs off 248 balls on Day 1 of the ongoing Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The right-handed batsman also remained not-out on Day 1 and will take up the crease with Ajinyka Rahane on Day 2.

With his century, KL Rahul became the only 2nd Indian opener to slam a century in Tests in South Africa. He was promoted as the Test vice-captain ahead of the series. He also made an outstanding partnership of 117-runs with Mayank Agarwal for the 1st wicket.

KL Rahul Has Changed A Few Things About His Batting In Tests: Dinesh Karthik

While speaking to Cricbuzz, cricketer and commentator Dinesh Karthik praised KL Rahul for his magnificent batting in Tests. He revealed how Rahul made changes to his batting for Test format.

“The one thing that KL was caught up with was the way to play Test cricket because when he used to play domestic cricket he used to hit a lot of sixes to fast-bowlers over covers, over long-on, these sort of shots. So when he brought that to the table in Test match cricket, obviously it wasn’t that easy to consistently keep doing that to bowlers who bowled 140, 145+, and the odd time that you do get out playing a big shot it doesn’t look good as an opener,” Dinesh Karthik said.

“He’s changed a few things technically like the way he stands, his position of hands, these sort of small things that he has worked on and got better at it and that has given him the confidence to go out there… The way he handled the second new ball was brilliant. The way he was leaving the ball, how late he’s playing it. He’s generally someone who goes for a cover drive and the uppercut a lot but now you can see he’s waiting on the cover drive, allowing the ball to come to him which in turn is getting him into good positions to play the right shots,” Karthik further added.

With Rahul’s century, India have reached 272-3 on the scoreboard. Mayank Agarwal also hit 60 runs before losing his wicket to Lungi Ngidi. Cheteshwar Puajra got out for a duck while Virat Kohli managed to score 35 runs. Both of them also became victim of Lungi Ngidi.
