Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has said that he wants to discuss the conditions and experience of playing in South Africa with red-ball captain Virat Kohli who has played a lot of cricket in the country.
Iyer after his success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) got his maiden T20I call-up in the home series against New Zealand, he did a decent job in the series and India won by 3-0 against the Black Caps. Meanwhile, after the T20I series, he returned to the domestic circuit and delivered a sensational performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy which helped him get his maiden One Day Internationals (ODI) call-up for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa.
The 27-year old has said that he is looking forward to the challenge in South Africa and is hoping to win the series for India.
“I am really happy. I am really looking forward to another challenge and want to win the series (ODI series vs SA) for my team. I am really happy and excited to play against South Africa. South African conditions are challenging and I am ready to take on this challenge,” Iyer told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.
Iyer added that he wants to discuss conditions which Kohli and want to know how the surface in South Africa behaves so that he ” acclimatise to the conditions quickly”.
“We have players in our team who have played a lot of cricket in South Africa, be it Tests or limited overs. I want to discuss the conditions and experience (of playing in SA) with Virat bhai. What the conditions are like, how the pitches behave, and of course his personal experience. It will help me acclimatise to the conditions quickly. I am looking forward to learning from all the players in the team.” Iyer said.

The batting all-rounder further lauded KL Rahul who will be leading the ODI team in the South Africa tour absence of injured Rohit Sharma and said that he is excited to play under “good leader” Rahul.
“KL (Rahul) is a good leader. I won my debut series (vs New Zealand) under Rohit bhai. I am really excited to play under KL. He is a different kind of captain and I look forward to learning a lot on this tour. I am sure KL will take us to a series win,” Iyer told TimesofIndia.com
Meanwhile, India, who are currently playing a Test series in South Africa, will play a three-match ODI series which will commence from January 19 at Boland Park in Paarl.
