Indian red-ball skipper Virat Kohli looked in good touch in the first Test match of the three-match Test series against Dean Elgar-led South Africa National Cricket Team at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on Sunday, December 26. However, he played a poor shot to lose his wicket and all his hard work went in vain.
In the second ball of the 69th over of the first innings Lungi Ngidi, who was the only successful bowler on Day 1 bowled a nothing delivery that was way outside off and Kohli chased the delivery and tried to drive it through offside and the ball after the outside-edge travelled at a nice height for first slip and it was a simple catch for Mulder.

The shot played by an experienced player like Kohli was so poor that he wouldn’t want to watch the replay. Meanwhile, Kohli got out after scoring 35 runs off 94 balls including 4 fours and the wait for the 71st century continues. Also, it was Lungi Ngidi’s third wicket of the day.

Indian Openers Provide A Good Start On Day 1 vs South Africa
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Surprisingly India included Ajinkya Rahane in the playing XI and there were no Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari in the team. From South Africa, Marco Jansen made his debut.
Vice-captain KL Rahul opened the innings with his mate Mayank Agarwal in the absence of Rohit Sharma and both the openers looked decent out in middle and they completed the fifty partnership off 105 balls. At lunch, India were at 83/0 in 28.0 overs with KL Rahul at 29 and Mayank Agarwal at 46 runs.
After the lunch, Mayank smashed a crunching drive past mid-off for the four to Jansen to complete his half-century off 89 balls including 8 fours. Also, Rahul and Mayank had a century partnership and they became the 3rd Indian opening pair to register a century partnership against South Africa in South Africa in tests after Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik in 2007 and Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag in 2010.
Then Lungi Ngidi bought South Africa back in the game by picking wickets in consecutive deliveries, he dismissed in-form batter Mayank Agarwal who scored a fifty and out-of-form batter Cheteshwar Pujara who bagged a duck.
At the time of writing, India are at 217/3 with KL Rahul approaching towards his century.
