Former South African cricketer Allan Donald has lauded the “quality” Indian Test team for winning a series in Australia and reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

The India tour of South Africa is scheduled to begin from December 26 at the SuperSport Park, Centurion and India will play three Tests and three ODIs in the tour. Also, all the matches will be played without spectators behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 situation in the country.

Meanwhile, talking about the upcoming India tour of South Africa, Donald said that he is excited and is looking forward to the “incredible battle over the summer”.

There is no doubt this is one of the marquee series in the world game and we can look forward to an incredible battle over the summer,” Donald was quoted as saying by cricket.co.za.

Meanwhile, Donald talked about Virat Kohli’s comments which he made in 2018 when India lost the series against South Africa.

“Kohli’s comments a few years ago were that you’ll never be classed as a great side if you don’t win away from home and that has been something he really worked towards. You saw them win in Australia and also reach the WTC (World Test Championship) Final. This is a quality Indian team that is here. I’m looking forward to it,” he stated.

Also, recently the Indian red-ball captain Virat Kohli has said: “South Africa was really the start for us as a team, travelling and starting to believe we can win series overseas, We built it up nicely in England, and Australia was an accumulation of all those efforts.”

Donald further added that both India and South Africa have strong bowling lineups but their batting will be tested. He highlighted that the Proteas team have lost some key batters in the last couple of seasons and it will be a challenge for the youngsters to face the Indian bowling attack.

“Both teams line up really well, both have strong bowling line-ups and that will mean the batting on both sides will be tested. Our batting has lost some key players in the last couple of seasons. There’s no hiding from the fact that it’s a young line-up and they will be tested by the Indian attack,” he added.

Donald reckons that the South Africa bowling unit is capable enough to bag 20 wickets in the match and it will depend a lot on batters to put good runs on the board.

For me that is where the series will be decided. In the last few seasons, we haven’t scored enough runs and that will be the challenge. If we can put the runs on the board, we undoubtedly have the bowlers who can take 20 wickets. There is a really good balance to our attack, and it will be interesting to watch,” he added further.
