Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has opened up on Virat Kohli’s poor run of form in international cricket presently and how he can shut his haters on the South Africa tour. Notably, Virat Kohli has been the centre of drama in Indian cricket for a couple of months now. It all began with Virat’s announcement of stepping down as India’s T20 skipper after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 irrespective of the result.

Team India’s exit in the T20 World Cup made sure that Virat stays out of the picture as far as captaincy of limited-overs format is concerned. Thus, the BCCI, while announcing India’s Test squad for South Africa, mentioned that Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the new white-ball captain of team India. Now, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli have come up against each other publically defying each other’s statements.

Danish Kaneria Opens Up On Virat Kohli’s Future With Team India

“For Virat Kohli, it’s a very big tour because India’s never won a [Test] series in South Africa. They’ve won in England and Australia but this time in South Africa, it will be Virat Kohli’s last chance as captain (to win a series in SA). He has got to score runs with the bat, he has got to make his team win, and he has to prove himself on the tour especially after the way the BCCI kicked him out (of the ODI captaincy),” said Kaneria, who bagged 261 wickets in 61 Tests.

Team India has flown to South Africa on the morning of December 16 and they will play a three-match Test series and a three-match ODI series. The first Test will begin at Johannesburg on December 26. The problem for the touring party is the number of injuries that have caused damage to the side.

Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, and Axar Patel were not taken into consideration for the series and now Rohit Sharma has also been ruled out. Rohit sustained a hamstring pull a couple of days before the South Africa departure and thus, Priyan Panchal, the young India batter was added to the India squad for the tour.
