Rishabh Pant struck his fourth Test ton on day 3 of the Cape Town Test as India were bowled out for 198 in the second innings. The hosts are now chasing 211 to win the third Test and the series. Pant was unbeaten on exactly a hundred when India’s last wicket fell leaving South Africa a decent target to chase in the fourth innings.

Rishabh Pant added a 94-run partnership with skipper Virat Kohli (29) to help India recover from the early jolt on day 3. The visitors lost the wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane inside the first two overs of the day’s play.

From there on, Pant got himself set and alongside Kohli brought the Indian innings back on track. Once Kohli was dismissed with India on 152, he got some quick runs before the tail-enders were dismissed and the Indian second innings folded out for 198. His Indian teammates gave him a standing ovation recognising the importance of his innings. The Indian cricket fraternity also hailed his hundred that he scored in tough conditions and on a pitch where none of the other batters looked settled.

The youngster was lambasted by cricket experts for throwing his wicket away in the second Test in Johannesburg. However, this time around, he played with a lot more maturity and intent. He ran out of partners after Kohli’s dismissal as the Protean pacers wrapped up the Indian tail quickly.

This is now Pant’s third Test ton outside India. He has previously scored tons against Australia and England in their own backyard. He is also now the fourth Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to score a Test ton outside Asia.

South Africa in their quest to chase down 211 have already lost Aiden Markram. However, skipper Dean Elgar is still batting strong at the moment. The Virat Kohli-led side can become the first Indian side to win a Test series in South Africa. The three-match series is currently tied on 1-1.
