Axar Patel scored his maiden ODI fifty as he took India over the line in a tight finish in the second ODI in Trinidad. He scored an unbeaten 64 off 35 deliveries to take India over the line. The chase was also the third-highest ever in an ODI in the Caribbean. He also took 1 for 40 with the ball along with his exploits with the bat.

Axar Patel finally realised his potential as an all-rounder in this game. He came into bat with India 205/5 after the fall of Sanju Samson’s wicket. India still needed over 100 runs with Deepak Hooda joining Axar Patel at the wicket.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria complimented the way Axar Patel played throughout his innings. Soaking in the pressure he finished the game with a six with that many runs needed off the final three balls of the Indian innings.

“Shreyas Iyer (63) batted superbly, but India were way behind when Axar came into bat. He batted as if he had come directly from the nets. He made it look so easy out in the middle and showed great composure. He played an excellent knock and scored his maiden ODI fifty to lead his team to a fantastic victory.”

Kaneria further went on and said that Axar Patel is another finishing in the making in this Indian team. The southpaw finally realised his batting potential years after making his debut in international cricket.

“Axar Patel is another finisher in the making for India. What a gem of an innings, what a gem of a cricketer he is. He batted with great gusto. I must say, I really enjoyed watching him play that knock” the former Pakistan spinner said.

The southpaw hit three fours and as many as five sixes in his 35-ball innings. He was also awarded the Man of the Match award for his heroics with both bat and ball.
