Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Saba Karim has said that the veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin seems to be a part of India National Cricket Team all-format captain Rohit Sharma’s T20I plans.
Ashwin made his comeback to the T20I side after 8 months in the first game of the five-match T20I series against West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on Friday, July 29. He managed to score crucial 13 runs with the bat and then bag two huge wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer to help India win the game by 68 runs.

During a discussion on India Sports News, Karim said that the veteran off-spinner is a wicket-taker and he can play a huge role in the T20I games for Team India. He asserted:
“Ravichandran Ashwin still seems to be a part of Rohit Sharma’s plans. A captain wants bowlers who can pick wickets in this format, and Ashwin is a wicket-taking option. It is possible that Ashwin will play a big role in the upcoming games. He can get wickets for you and has immense experience.”
Karim further mentioned that the star spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was not performing well with the ball in his last few T20I appearances. Karim said that he was pleased to see skipper Rohit backing Jadeja to bowl during the powerplay to instil confidence in him. He said:
“It was good to see that Rohit Sharma backed Ravindra Jadeja to bowl during the powerplay. It looked like Jadeja was short of confidence with the way he bowled in his last few T20I matches.
“Rohit wants to instil confidence in the main players. That’s why he brought him to the attack early on a spin-conducive wicket. It is a big plus when the skipper supports you this way.”
I am pleased to see that apart from his batting, his captaincy has also been very good – Saba Karim
“Rohit Sharma batted really well in the first match. But I am pleased to see that apart from his batting, his captaincy has also been very good. The wicket was tough to bat on and players from both sides struggled to adjust to the conditions. But it looked like Rohit was batting on a different wicket altogether.
“Openers need some time to settle in. He didn’t take any time and played exceptionally well. He has made it clear that there is going to be an attacking approach, irrespective of the conditions.”
